DB-109 Claude VonStroke - Urban Animal RMXS

Available on The Birdhouse: May 2nd, 2014
Available on Beatport: May 5th
Available Worldwide + Vinyl: May 20th

Drawing from his inspirations like never before, Urban Animal is Claude VonStroke’s most personal LP to date. Naturally this remix package has been curated with the same amount of passion and features some of the California birdman’s favourite producers.

Solomon, Eprom, Dixon, Jimmy Edgar, Photek, Kill Frenzy, Justin Jay, Doorly, Krust, Tanner Ross and SCNTST… It reads like the ultimate who’s who in creative electronic music. There’s even a remake of “Can’t Wait” by VonStroke himself.

Each remixer was hand picked as an innovator or trend setter of their genre. From personal inspirations such as Photek and Krust (two men who are responsible for getting the dirtybird bossman into production in the first place) to exciting young talents such as Justin Jay, SCNTST and Eprom via old friends and kindred spirits (Jimmy Edgar, Doorly, Solumon and Tanner Ross), the whole package is as personal, eclectic and as the original album itself. Bolstering the original message of the album with clarity and creativity, each one of these revisions demands your attention!

CLAUDE VONSTROKE URBAN ANIMAL ALBUM VIDEO PREVIEW

In anticipation of dirtybird’s 100th release “Urban Animal,” Claude VonStroke finds himself back in Detroit trying to explain bits and pieces of his new album while visiting with his parents, interviewing street poets and Dj-ing at the historic Fillmore Theatre.

Long time friend and acclaimed director, Anthony Garth, explores the psyche of the dirtybird Records founder by taking us through the paradoxes and pleasures of Urban Animal’s cut and paste paradigm.

This unique narrative is inspired by one of 2013’s most highly anticipated albums created by one of electronic music’s most decorated contributors. Essential viewing, especially if you’ve ever wanted to know what Mr & Mrs VonStroke senior look like or, for that matter, wanted to see Claude VonStroke take a pee…

Urban Animal is dirtybird’s 100th release, and will be available on digital, CD and vinyl from September 24th. Watch out for the world tour commencing October 4th.

Claude VonStroke - Urban Animal
Available Worldwide: 9/24/13

Stuck in the 9-5 grind, stifled by the impersonality of constant social media and mobile interaction, contemporary urban life can be suffocating. For a certain breed, release cannot be found in the vast, unpopulated great outdoors. Urban Animals congregate in heaving warehouses, seeking solace in the liberating beats of the kick drum. They are bound not by association, but through a shared experience of primal relief felt in those shadowy, dance floor corners swelling with the sounds of low end frequencies and brazenly sculpted grooves. This is the Urban Animal’s jungle.

Claude VonStroke’s third original album and the 100th release for dirtybird is indebted to this bold and bestial inner-city lifestyle, but it’s also a product of its creator; a unique subspecies steeped in that San Franciscan sound, intersecting unknown terrain on instruction of the inimitable dirtybird label boss.  Just as Urban Animal’s artwork reconstructs photography of derelict city architecture from Detroit and the Midwest into three compelling animal portraits, so too has Claude VonStroke sampled unexpected sounds from his chaotic working environment to create the nine intriguing tracks that make up his full length composition. Think of VonStroke as a modern day, West Coast Frankenstein, his creature a rugged arrangement of the most discordant, unlikely parts whilst somehow brimming with beauty and human appeal.

Spanning genre, space and mood, Claude VonStroke’s Urban Animal is as unpredictable and bewildering as any living entity.

Claude VonStroke Offers Up Free Download of Urban Animal’s Second Single ‘Dood’

Claude VonStroke, dirtybird’s benevolent label master, today served up a free download of ‘Dood’ the second single from his upcoming album, ‘Urban Animal’, which will be released September 24.

Dood is inherently dirtybird and the one you’ve been waiting for if you were expecting something nasty from ‘Urban Animal’. The heart-squeezing booty-bass-line smacks instantly, while the rumbling drawl of the stoned vocal perfectly encapsulates VonStroke’s witty spirit.

‘Dood’ is idiosyncratic, eccentric, unpredictable and imaginative, it’s a seriously fun trip aimed squarely at the heart of the dancefloor, and this track has been a peak time hit for VonStroke and the entire dirtybird crew this summer.

“Urban Animal’ embodies the singular sound that Claude VonStroke and his dirtybird crew have perfected over the last nine years. Touching on all spectrums of house, moving from booty bass to d’n’b, ‘Urban Animal’ is rich and diverse, stoic and playful, tough and tender. VonStroke has pieced together a rugged arrangement of the most discordant, unlikely parts, into something brimming with beauty and human appeal. Much like the single ‘Dood’, “Urban Animal” is a record wide in scope, yet one that could only have been birthed by VonStroke

“Dood,” the second single from Claude VonStroke’s forthcoming album, Urban Animal. Dood is inherently dirtybird and the one you’ve been waiting for if you were expecting something nasty from the project. The heart-squeezing booty-bass-line smacks instantly, while the rumbling drawl of the stoned vocal perfectly encapsulates VonStroke’s witty spirit. The track is an homage to the time Claude spent in Los Angeles during the production of the album and really captures the fun, dark edge of that sprawaling so-cal metropolis.

As we move one step closer to the celebrated DB100, ‘Dood’ has already proved its worth as the peak time choice for its creator and the other dirtybird members like Justin Martin, Catz ‘n Dogz and Eats Everything. And just to bring it all full circle, Richie Hawtin was a champion of Claude’s very first single Deep Throat in 2005 and so it’s only fitting that he closed his most recent set at Space Ibiza with this monster trip-out track. Get on it.
